Overview
Southland Industries performed plumbing, piping, sheet metal, building automation system (BAS), fuel oil, generator exhaust stack, and set equipment work for a new, 320,000 square foot confidential data center project in Quincy, Washington.
Our Approach
The project scope included work on 2 administrative buildings and 4 data halls, which support 32 MW of power, 160 custom air handling units (AHUs), 16 cooling towers, 20 generator exhaust stacks, 16 dedicated outdoor air systems (DOAS), 10 fuel cabinets, and 2 rooftop units.
To increase efficiency, we conducted extensive pipe spooling and duct fabrication in our Portland, OR shops. We identified potential work clashes prior to field work by using prefabrication and BIM.
Additionally, by adapting to working with multiple electrical contractors and determining an optimal work schedule, we worked through weather delays, budget issues, and coordination challenges to still meet the demanding rigors of Level 5 commissioning.
Result
This collaborative project was delivered 10 weeks ahead of schedule, under budget, and achieved LEED Gold certification.
