Overview
Completed in December 2023, the 59,000-square-foot Student Services Center & Administration Building (SSAB) provides a centralized location for student-focused services at Los Angeles Mission College.
This three-story facility consolidates 14 departments previously spread across campus into one space. The first floor houses admissions and records, financial aid, and student success offices, while six additional student service departments are located on the second floor. The building features office spaces, student workstations, counselor and administration offices, and transaction counters.
Our Approach
We provided design-build mechanical and plumbing services and served as the mechanical engineer of record for this project. Our team utilized Level 400 BIM modeling alongside prefabrication of HVAC and piping systems. This coordination allowed materials to be delivered just in time for installation, reducing onsite storage needs and improving efficiency.
Equipment installed included a rooftop air handling unit (AHU) and a variable air volume (VAV) system, with standalone direct expansion (DX) systems for the electrical and intermediate distribution frame (IDF) spaces.
Result
Designed to enhance the student and staff experience, the building incorporates sustainable features such as drought-tolerant landscaping, a green roof, polished concrete floors, and a 66-kilowatt solar panel system. These elements contributed to the project achieving LEED Gold certification.
Located near pedestrian walkways at the campus gateway, the facility is an integral part of Los Angeles Mission College. This marks our second completed project at Los Angeles Mission College and one of more than a dozen delivered for the Los Angeles Community College District over the past 15 years.
