Overview
The University of Southern California (USC) unveiled the Dr. Allen and Charlotte Ginsburg Human-Centered Computation Hall — a cutting-edge, 116,000 square foot, seven-story LEED Platinum-certified facility.
Designed to foster innovation, the hall features a 2-story lab for flying autonomous aerial vehicles, advanced robotics labs, collaborative workspaces, creativity zones, and a 300-seat auditorium and amphitheater. This state-of-the-art building empowers students, faculty, and staff to push boundaries in AI, robotics, and advanced computing.
Our Approach
Southland's role in this project included delivering all mechanical ductwork and piping, including the steam tie-in to an existing structure and radiant piping systems. Some unique features of this project included our innovative use of radiant piping for in-slab heating and cooling across every level.
This approach ensures optimal comfort and energy efficiency while reducing the building's environmental impact. By integrating sustainable systems, we not only enhanced the facility's eco-friendliness, but also created a comfortable and inspiring environment for learning and collaboration.
Result
Opened in September 2024, the Ginsburg Hall sets a new standard for computer research and education. It serves as a shining example of how academic institutions can embrace green construction practices while advancing innovation.
