Overview
The Cerritos College Social Science building in Norwalk, California, focused on the design-build replacement of five multi-zone air handling units (AHUs) that serve the facility.
The 39,000-square-foot building houses the Social Science department, including classrooms, administrative offices, and faculty spaces. Completed in the fall of 2023, the project provided additional space to accommodate the college's growing student population.
Our Approach
To maintain a comfortable environment during summer classes, Southland installed temporary air-conditioning while replacing the AHUs. The project faced a tight schedule and limited workspace, requiring careful coordination. Work involved the hot and cold decks of the AHUs, installing new controls, and demolishing existing chilled water equipment in the basement.
Result
Southland successfully completed the project with minimal disruption to students and faculty, ensuring the facility was fully operational for the return of the majority of the student body in the fall.
