Overview
As the first IPD project in Eastern Washington, Spokane Behavioral Health was a 3-story, 100-bed, free-standing psychiatric and behavioral health hospital on the Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center campus. The project included 52 patient rooms with 100 beds, treatment areas, gymnasium, courtyard, kitchen, natural lighting, dedicated parking, an ambulance bay, as well as support and office space.
Our Approach
Southland delivered design-build dry mechanical systems and controls services. The IPD project team was able to overcome several large challenges, including a major trade partner issue that involved a windowsill height regulation that required the window siding to be removed so that the sills could be raised to accommodate Washington insurance requirements.
Result
Though the successful implementation of Lean construction principles — including Choosing By Advantages, Last Planner® System, target value design, and an onsite Big Room — the project was completed on schedule and below the target cost.
