Overview
Located on the Las Vegas strip, the ultra-modern CityCenter Aria Tower sits on 68 acres and serves as a centerpiece of the city's downtown development with light shows held against the building's all-glass facades. Totaling 62 stories, Aria Tower is 1 of 5 high rises and consists of over 4,000 rooms and suites distributed across 5 wings.
Our Approach
In order to streamline construction and avoid trade stacking throughout the project, Southland collaborated with the general contractor and trade partners to develop a short interval project schedule.
The design-assist services we provided included mechanical and plumbing, as well as building information modeling, coordination, and prefabrication.
With a fast-track schedule and the need to install work while design was in progress, there was little to no room for errors. The curved shape of the tower became a concern and caused our team to be creative in the selection of appropriate means and methods to install HVAC and plumbing systems.
To accommodate these needs, we rented out an 80,000 square foot fabrication facility and procured all materials, equipment, and fixtures 3 floors ahead of time. Our team also took the lead with the general contractor in field coordination, allowing minimum rework and fast-paced construction.
Result
By assisting in the design and construction phase, Southland was able to improve project efficiencies and enhance the overall outcome of installation through prefabrication. The HVAC and plumbing services Southland provided allowed the Aria Tower at CityCenter to become the world's largest five star hotel to achieve LEED Gold certification.
