Engineering News-Record (ENR) Texas & Louisiana
Soli Organic Inc.'s 140,000 square foot indoor vertical farm project was recently highlighted by ENR. The project was noted for its exceptional coordination in delivering indoor vertical farm solutions for Soli Organic, Inc. Brandt, a Southland Industries company, performed the electrical scope of work for this cutting-edge project in San Antonio, Texas.
About the project
This automated indoor farm, located at the former Brooks Air Force Base, introduces 100,000 square feet of production space with 6 vertical growing layers, significantly increasing capacity. An additional 40,000 square feet is dedicated to processing and packing, bolstering Soli Organic's nationwide operations.
Brandt's role in executing the electrical aspects of this complex build demonstrates the ability to manage high-tech, precision projects. The Brandt team installed underground electrical duct banks and secondary electrical feeders to serve the new pump house and provided electrical infrastructure for booster pumps, ductile iron piping, and interconnecting systems that treat the water before it enters the storage tanks.
The success of this project was driven by effective coordination among the project teams. Led by Joeris General Contractors, the construction of Soli Organic's facility was described as "a box within a box" due to the different environmental requirements of each growing room.
