Southland Industries Awarded DC Water Headquarters Project

Dulles, VA – Southland Industries, one of the nation's largest MEP building systems experts providing engineering, construction, service and energy service solutions, was recently awarded the DC Water Headquarters project in Washington, DC. In addition to Southland, the integrated design-assist project team consists of SmithGroupJJR and Mona Electric.

The 150,000 square foot facility will serve as the headquarters for DC Water, the provider of drinking and wastewater treatment services to 640,000 residents in the DC area, as well as wastewater services to 1.6 million more customers in Maryland and Virginia. The headquarters offices will consolidate and relocate all administration related employees to a centrally located facility. Southland's scope of work for the project includes HVAC, plumbing, fire protection and controls services.

DC Water's mission to provide reliable and cost-effective water and wastewater services in accordance with best practices was the driving force behind the highly sustainable construction project. With a LEED Platinum certification goal, the facility will include an innovative heat recovery from wastewater that will be the first of its kind in the United States. The mechanical system will also utilize a fan-powered induction unit system with heat recovery chillers.

The project is currently in the design phase and overall project completion is anticipated for June 2017.
