Southland Industries Awarded San Diego Airport Federal Inspection Service Facility

San Diego, CA – Southland Industries, one of the nation's largest MEP building systems experts providing engineering, construction, service, and energy service solutions, was recently awarded the San Diego Airport Federal Inspection Service Expansion. In addition to Southland, the design-assist project team consists of Gensler, Syska Hennessy, Turner Construction, and PCL.

Totaling 135,000 square feet, the project will consist of 35,000 square feet of new construction and 100,000 square feet of remodeled space. The newly added space will increase capacity, expand processing areas, add a second baggage claim device, and utilize the newest processing efficiencies introduced by the US Customs and Border Protection. Southland will provide HVAC and plumbing construction services, including building automation and temporary air handling systems throughout the construction and renovation phases.

With a goal of LEED Silver certification, the project 's design and construction phases are currently underway. The project's first phase is scheduled for completion June 2018. The last two gatehouses are expected to be complete by 2019.
