Overview

The Monarch San Antonio is a newly constructed 17-story boutique hotel with 200 rooms located in the dynamic Hemisfair Park.

Designed with both luxury and sustainability in mind, the property offers open gathering spaces, unique retail experiences, and an array of dining options. Sustainable elements, including native stone, lush greenery, and tranquil water features, honor the natural beauty of the region. Guests can indulge in upscale accommodations, a modern full-service spa, and a scenic pool terrace. The hotel also boasts 5 distinctive food and beverage venues, such as a rooftop restaurant and bar, a hidden speakeasy, a garden area, a state-of-the-art fitness center, and approximately 10,000 square feet of versatile meeting and event space.

Our Approach

This project demonstrates our expertise in designing, coordinating, and installing complex mechanical and plumbing systems. The mechanical scope features a sophisticated chilled water system that connects to San Antonio Water Systems' centralized cooling loop, with two plate and frame heat exchangers decoupling the building loop to supply numerous air handling units, fan coil units, dedicated outdoor air system units, and kitchen equipment. For ventilation, we utilized prefabricated double-wall grease ducts and pollution control units that clean exhaust air before discharge. On the plumbing side, we provided domestic hot and cold-water distribution throughout the hotel, including guest rooms and kitchen areas, supported by an extensive grease waste system for the numerous kitchens.

To enhance efficiency and quality, we leveraged prefabrication, including a chilled water pump skid with three 450 gallons per minute vertical inline pumps and fully pre-assembled fan coil units for guest rooms, fabricated and ready for seamless onsite installation. Despite the tight spaces allocated for mechanical and plumbing systems, our engineering, BIM, and operations teams collaborated to develop innovative solutions that maintained the project's architectural vision.

Result

Scheduled to open in early 2026, The Monarch San Antonio spans 1.5 acres and draws inspiration from the Monarch butterfly's migration through the region. Its vibrant interiors will reflect themes of transformation, blending natural elegance with a sense of renewal, creating a welcoming connection for both locals and visitors.
