San Antonio, TX – Brandt, a Southland Industries company, has been awarded the design-bid-build mechanical and electrical contract for the Terminal A Expansion project at San Antonio International Airport (SAT) in San Antonio, Texas.
In collaboration with the City of San Antonio and Hensel Phelps, Brandt will deliver HVAC systems, underground utilities, power distribution, lighting, and baggage handling upgrades. With construction taking place alongside active airport operations, the project requires close coordination to maintain safety and minimize disruption.
Scheduled for completion in late 2025, the Terminal A Expansion includes a 37,000-square-foot pre-engineered metal building (PEMB) and 3 new gates with 5 plane positions. The expansion is part of a larger strategic plan to accommodate growing passenger demand and improve the overall traveler experience.
Project highlights include:
- Seven rooftop HVAC units to support terminal climate control
- New underground power distribution and full electrical system buildout
- Upgrades to the baggage handling systems
- Site-wide mechanical and electrical support for the Ground Load Facility (GLF) and remain overnight aircraft parking area (SRON)
This project is aligned with SAT's $2.5 billion strategic development plan, which targets over 15 million annual passengers by 2030.
"The design of this project truly highlights the quality craftsmanship we deliver, especially with so much of our work being visible to the public. Our ductwork will be prominently on display. It's a rare opportunity in our industry to have our efforts seen and appreciated by millions of people, and it's something I'm genuinely proud to be a part of," said Blake Howell, Project Manager.
"It continues to demonstrate Brandt and Southland's continued success in delivering MEP infrastructure for growing aviation markets. We're honored to partner with Hensel Phelps and the City of San Antonio to help bring this expansion to life," he continued.
