Southland Industries Awarded National Museum of the United States Army

Jan. 19, 2016

Dulles, VA – Southland Industries, one of the nation's largest MEP building systems experts providing engineering, construction, service and energy service solutions, was recently awarded the National Museum of the United States Army at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. In addition to Southland's design-build team, the project includes M.C. Dean, Clark Construction, and Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill.

Spanning more than 185,000 square feet, Southland will provide design-build services for all mechanical, plumbing, and fire protection systems. Additionally, Southland's scope of work includes the design and installation of radiant heating and cooling slabs, as well as a dedicated outside air system in order to provide ventilation and humidification to the gallery spaces.

Located on 40 acres of land, the museum will include 15,000 pieces from the Army Art Collection and 30,000 artifacts, documents, and images. Outside of the facility, there will be a memorial garden, amphitheater, and parade ground; additional space is being sought to accommodate ceremonies, reenactments, lectures, educational programs, conferences, and reunions.

With a goal of LEED silver certification, the project's design phase is underway and construction is expected to begin in October of 2016.
