Dulles, VA – Southland Industries, one of the nation's largest MEP building systems experts providing engineering, construction, operations and energy service solutions, was recently awarded 4040 Wilson Boulevard in Arlington, Virginia. In addition to Southland, the design-build team consists of Girard Engineering, PerLectric, and Paladino and Company.
Totaling 440,000 square feet, 4040 Wilson will be a 22-story mixed-use facility featuring retail, office, and residential space above an existing five-story below grade parking garage. Southland will be providing mechanical piping, HVAC, and plumbing design-build services, as well as fire protection design services. The designs will feature an air-cooled chiller plant with magnetic-bearing chillers, a dedicated outside air system to serve the office and residential space, chilled water fan coil units, and fan powered terminal units within the office space.
With a goal of LEED Gold certification, the project's design phase is currently underway. Construction is expected to commence in late 2017, and overall project completion is anticipated by spring 2019.
