
The United Association (UA) celebrated Black History Month by partnering with USA Today to highlight Juanita Douglas, Senior Manager of Construction and Labor Relations at the Rising Sun Center for Opportunity. Through her work with Rising Sun, Juanita has helped elevate the next generation of women in construction, including Niki Brown, an apprentice in our Union City fabrication shop.
Although Niki earned a bachelor's degree in child development and started her career in retail, she longed for a more hands-on profession. She ultimately discovered her passion through Local Union 342 and joined Southland as a first-year apprentice three years ago.
"I feel like welding found me. I enjoy it and I love the craft and artistry of manipulating metal into an end product," Niki told USA Today.
