2020 Tom Guilfoy Memorial Craftsmanship Award – Mechanical

Aug. 5, 2020

Southland Industries was recently awarded the 2020 Tom Guilfoy Memorial Craftsmanship Award in the Mechanical category for the Gilead NB324 project. Created in memory of Tom Guilfoy, owner of Guilfoy Cornice Works in San Francisco, this award recognizes special attention to detail and critical expertise that exemplifies teamwork between sheet metal workers and the contractor as well as the contractor and owner.

The Gilead NB324 project is a 365,200 square foot R&D laboratory and office facility in Foster City, California, which includes chemistry and biology labs, solvent supply rooms, a DI room, NMR rooms, breakrooms, offices, and a six-story parking garage. Initiated by Gilead to provide a centralized building to accommodate all research laboratory activities on the Foster City campus, the project was designed to comply with CalGreen standards and meet LEED certified levels of sustainable design. Southland worked with EXP as a design-assist contractor and utilized BIM to work with other trades and to design in modularity and prefabrication. The Gilead NB324 project was successfully delivered on time and on budget.

Southland previously won this award in 2019.
