The Challenge
During the first phase of a cooling tower piping installation, the team faced extreme cold temperatures, which created fall, falling object, and temperature hazards. There were also tight clearances between the cooling tower and the build, resulting in repetitive challenges with material handling.
Innovation through Practice – The 'Aha' Moment
To minimize time spent in the boom lift, the team went back to detailing and designed a prefabricated pipe rack. The new support structure also supports a safe working platform for all trades to do their work that needs to be done at elevated connection points.
The Bottom Line
This innovation drastically reduced the amount of time workers were exposed to falls and falling objects while also saving costs and time.
