Hear from Southland experts:
October 14 | 10:00 a.m.–10:45 a.m.
Henry Nutt III, Business Development Executive, will join representatives from Penn Medicine and Chick-fil-A, Inc. to discuss the owner's role in improving project delivery through collaboration, respect, waste reduction, and continuous improvement. They will share key insights on creating a collaborative culture, supporting continuous improvement across teams and processes, and more.
October 14 | 11:15 p.m.–12:00 p.m.
Kris Getchell, Project Constructability Lead, and Sarah Schettler, Senior Design Engineer, will join representatives from DLR Group, DPR Construction, and Sutter Health to discuss a $2.3 billion hospital project delivered through an Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) model, where the team implemented Lean thinking to better align design and VDC coordination with project goals. They will share the advantages of using Takt planning in design, leveraging tools such as Resolve VR for user feedback, and Revizto for clarity and design progression.
October 14 | 3:45 p.m.–4:30 p.m.
Christina Gedeon, Senior Project Manager, and Aaron Brightman, Project Constructability Lead, will join representatives from UCSF Real Estate, Jacobs, and Rudolph and Sletten Inc. to explore how the UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland (BCH Oakland) New Hospital Building (NHB) project team overcame the pitfalls of "designing in silos" on a high-stakes, constrained Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development (OSHPD) 1 site. This session dives into the reality of building psychological safety and a "stop the line" culture to resolve complex constraints.
October 14 | 3:45 p.m.–4:30 p.m.
Jerry Wakai, Project Manager, will join representatives from Boulder Associates Architects, The Boldt Company, and Sutter Health, who are part of an IPD team on a San Francisco healthcare project who recovered 10 of 11+ lost months through intensive replanning, putting foremen at the scheduling table. This session is dedicated to a living project story that is still unfolding.
October 15 | 10:15 a.m.–11:00 a.m.
Avnit Kang, Director of Safety, Charlie Hall, Superintendent, and Henry Nutt III, Business Development Executive, will join representatives from Seven, Webcor, and Del Monte Electric Co., Inc. to discuss the urgent topic of mental well-being in the trades and how it affects performance, retention, and lives. Attendees will gain usable strategies to engage early on, reduce stigma, and build a culture where people feel safe to speak up.
October 15 | 11:30 a.m.–12:15 p.m.
Henry Nutt III, Business Development Executive, will join representatives from Penn State, Rosendin Electric Inc., and Construction Accelerator to summarize key research findings on the benefits observed by the trades using Lean methods, training, and the rollout to projects using real-life examples and resources to help trade partners adopt needed methods and behaviors.
October 15 | 11:30 a.m.–12:15 p.m.
Victor Sanvido, Senior Vice President, will join William Lichtig from The Boldt Company to discuss core concepts that have become cultural at a company that intentionally evolved with its owners and partners towards a Lean organization. The lessons learned are organized into a one-sentence title, an explanation of what that means, and then examples of successes and failures. Lessons will revolve around acting as one company, teamwork, learning and sharing, and more.
October 15 | 1:15 p.m.–2:00 p.m.
Austin Stevenson, Senior Project Manager, will join representatives from Herrero Builders Inc., Young Electric, Hensel Phelps, and Sutter Health, who will walk through a typical agenda grounded in Last Planner System practices, including lookahead planning, constraint review, and weekly commitments, with a strong focus on the implementation of the "Opportunities" section. This hands-on approach allows participants to immediately practice the process and apply it to their own weekly trade partner meetings.
October 15 | 1:15 p.m.–2:00 p.m.
Andrew Rhodes, Business Development Executive, will join representatives from Aligned Data Centers and Berkley Construction to discuss how they're leveraging Lean methodology to revolutionize the deployment of mission-critical infrastructure as the demand for AI-ready data centers surges.
October 15 | 3:45 p.m.–4:30 p.m.
Andrew Rhodes, Business Development Executive, will join Jess Benson from The Boldt Company to show how a project team used Lean principles within a hard-bid, lump-sum model to reduce outage duration, protect owner operations, and deliver real business value measured in minutes saved to demonstrate that Lean is about protecting operations and getting owners back to business faster.
