Arlington, VA

Southland Industries, one of the nation's largest design-build mechanical contracting firms, was recently honored by the USO of Metropolitan Washington (USO-Metro) as a top corporate sponsor. Yesterday evening, the organization held its 9th Annual Stars and Stripes Night, an annual fundraiser to bring USO-Metro supporters and wounded heroes from area military hospitals together with members of the business community and local celebrities.
Southland was named part of USO-Metro's 2012 Circle of the Stars, an elite award given to top-level corporate donors providing generous funding and support in line with USO-Metro's mission to lift the spirits of military service members and their families. The event surrounded the presentation of this award to demonstrate how crucial corporate support is to the organization's ongoing efforts. On behalf of Southland, Operations Manager Matt Bruening attended the event at the Sheraton Pentagon City Hotel along with hundreds of other local business leaders.
"We are so honored and humbled that these top corporate sponsors are active and generous supporters of USO-Metro," said Elaine Rogers, President, USO-Metro. "Due to the generous and incredible support of these companies, we are able to provide a broad range of programs to service members and their families, including programs for children with deployed parents, support services for spouses and emergency housing programs."
"Southland continues to be excited about the relationship that we have with USO-Metro. Having been a part of the construction of several of the new military healthcare facilities in this region, we've been able to see the impact that organizations like USO-Metro have on our military families," stated Southland's Mid-Atlantic Division Leader Mike Miller. "Our employees really enjoy the chance to show their support and admiration for these men and women. With help from our sponsors, being able to raise money for USO-Metro so that they can creatively find new ways to support the needs of these families is something that we look forward to each year," Miller added.
As part of Southland's commitment to the organization, the proceeds of the company's 4th Annual Tee-Off for Charity Golf Tournament, totaling $62,000, were donated to USO-Metro last month. Southland chose USO-Metro as the single beneficiary of the tournament's proceeds due to the their strong commitment to the men and women of our nation's Armed Forces.
