Southland Industries, one of the nation's largest MEP building systems experts providing engineering, construction, service and energy service solutions, was recently awarded the preconstruction and early construction services contract for the Patricia R. Guerrieri Academic Commons project at Salisbury University located in Salisbury, Maryland.
The new 214,000 square foot facility will include the Nabb Research Center for Delmarva History and Culture, library space, local archives, as well as areas for public events, quiet study, and research. Southland’s scope of work for the design-assist project will include preconstruction mechanical and plumbing services. Regarding mechanical systems, the project team must follow strict humidification requirements associated with the archive areas. Additionally, the facility will incorporate several green rooftops.
With the design phase currently underway, the project is expected to achieve LEED Silver certification. Construction is scheduled to commence in August 2014 and overall project completion is anticipated by June 2016.
