Southland Industries, one of the nation's largest MEP building systems experts hosted its 8th Annual Tee-Off for Charity Golf Tournament on September 15th at Evergreen Country Club in Haymarket, Virginia. Southland’s Mid-Atlantic Division chose to donate proceeds from the tournament to local non-profit organizations, Warrior Canine Connection (WCC) and Loudoun Habitat for Humanity. In total, the tournament raised approximately $55,000 for the two beneficiaries.

“This year marked Southland’s 8th annual golf outing and as an established business in Loudoun County, we could not have been more excited to continue working with Loudoun Habitat for Humanity,” stated Mike Miller, Southland’s Mid-Atlantic Division Leader. “We are also proud to announce that we had a new beneficiary of our event this year, the Warrior Canine Connection.  In addition to this charity golf event, Southland and other local industry engineering and construction firms are actively working with WCC on their new healing center in Boyds, Maryland.”

As a pioneering organization that utilizes its Mission-Based Trauma Recovery model, the Warrior Canine Connection helps wounded warriors reconnect with life, their families, communities, and each other. The organization is an accredited member of Assistance Dogs International, a global organization that establishes and promotes standards of excellence in all areas of assistance dog acquisition, training, and partnership. “The staff and partners of Southland Industries are incredibly generous and inspiring.  It was such a joy to be able to spend time with a fun and enthusiastic group of professionals,” said Sara Kass, M.D., Chief of Staff for WCC. We are so grateful to Southland Industries for their contributions that will help to make the WCC Healing Quarters a reality and will directly benefit thousands of veterans.”

Established under parent organization Habitat for Humanity International, Loudoun Habitat for Humanity relies on the generosity of dedicated volunteers to provide safe, affordable housing for all Loudoun County citizens in need. “Loudon Habitat for Humanity’s mission is to provide strength, stability, and self-reliance through shelter and we couldn’t do that without the generous support of our community supporters, like Southland Industries,” commented Kari Murphy, Development Director. James Wehr, President and Chairman of the Board affirmed, "It is truly an honor and privilege to be selected as one of the charities of choice for the Southland Industries golf tournament. Southland Industries is a leader and partner in the greater good of our community, and this donation will go directly to further Loudoun Habitat for Humanity's mission to provide safe, decent and affordable homeownership for Loudoun County families in need. We are looking forward to a continued partnership with Southland. Together, we will give more families a place to call home."

“We continue to be grateful for the support that our clients, vendors, and subcontractors in the engineering and construction industry provide us each fall.  It’s through their generosity that we can continue to build a stronger community here in Loudoun County and beyond,” Miller continued.
