Now, more than ever the state of air and airflow's acute relationship to the spread of airborne disease matters. Designers of healthcare facilities have many challenges to rise to and factors to consider. The life safety of patients and staff should be the primary concern when designing facilities, but initial costs and annual energy consumption cannot be ignored. Utilizing a 100 percent outside air system is an approach that can adequately address some of these challenges and factors while mitigating the potential spread of indoor pathogens through HVAC systems.
