Overview
Baylor Scott & White Irving Hospital completed a two-phase expansion that added a new central utility plant and a six-story patient bed tower to support growing care needs in Irving, Texas.
The project included a new 130,000 square foot patient tower with 72 patient rooms, advanced building systems, and a light-filled architectural atrium designed to enhance the patient and visitor experience. Construction took place within an active hospital environment and required careful coordination to maintain daily operations while modernizing critical infrastructure.

Our Approach
Our team provided mechanical and plumbing services across both phases of the project, supporting a complex HVAC and medical gas scope through a combination of design-build and design-assist delivery. We replaced the existing central utility plant and installed a new medical gas bulk yard with oxygen and nitrogen tanks, maintaining uninterrupted service during demolition by running more than 1,000 feet of medical gas piping to the hospital.
Within the six-story patient tower, we installed steam, chilled water, heating water, domestic hot and cold water, and multiple medical gas systems, along with fully coordinated mechanical rooms and rooftop air pressurization, exhaust, and isolation exhaust equipment. All work was executed in close coordination with hospital staff, facilities teams, and the general contractor to ensure safety, cleanliness, and precision within an active healthcare environment.
Result
The project was completed in August 2021 after a 44-month, multi-phased construction schedule. Our work supported the hospital's transition to modern, patient-centered care by delivering reliable infrastructure, advanced medical gas systems, and high-quality mechanical installations. The expansion enhanced patient safety, improved staff workflow, and elevated the overall patient experience.
