Southland’s Mid-Atlantic Division was recently awarded several Life Sciences / End-user Direct projects.

Specifically, Southland will be providing design-build HVAC and plumbing services for Fisher BioServices new 56 freezer bio-repository in an existing facility in Germantown, MD.  This owner-direct project is the first phase of several government-funded projects that Fisher is currently pursuing.

The Mid-Atlantic Division will also be working on the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Vaccine Research Center.  Our scope of work includes providing design-build HVAC and plumbing services for the renovation of an existing lab and office space totaling 8,000 square feet. This renovation will accommodate the relocation of the Vaccine Research Center from the NIH campus to a leased facility in Gaithersburg, MD. Southland will be responsible for all lab gas systems and piping, process chilled water piping and associated change over stations, equipment skids, a purified water system and associated piping loop and various HVAC and plumbing retrofits. This is an owner-direct project for Alexandria Real Estate Equities, Inc. through our relationship with Equilibrium, LLC.

The Qiagen Data Center was also awarded to the Mid-Atlantic division. Our scope of work includes providing design-build mechanical and plumbing services for the addition of a redundant Liebert split system and a stand-alone steam humidifier in an existing data center. This owner-direct project continues to build our relationship and work history with both Qiagen Sciences and Equilibrium, LLC.

Southland was also awarded the NOAA Chiller Project which includes providing design-build HVAC and plumbing services for the replacement of an existing centrifugal chiller in kind with a York R-134 centrifugal, water-cooled chiller. This owner-direct project was secured through an 8A negotiated government contract with NVE, Inc.

All of the above projects are scheduled to be completed in the next three months.  The efforts of Pat Goetz, Mark Gobbi, Gary Howard and Jayme Antolik to secure these projects is noted and appreciated.
