Santa Maria planning to add more sports fields, but project isn't a hit with everyone

To meet the demand of an active and healthy lifestyle, the Californian city of Santa Maria reached out to the local community and heard the need for their public parks to have more field space and increased field time with adequate lighting for soccer and other sports. Southland Energy and PG&E are partners on the lighting of the new project, working with the Santa Maria City Council on a plan to keep the fields open later after 5 p.m. "We're talking about a multi-million dollar project citywide," said Recreation and Parks Director Alex Posada. "This will allow us to become more energy efficient and use the savings from that energy efficiency at our facilities to pay back the cost of the project.
