The Recruiting Experience: Fall 2013

As part of Southland’s recent rebranding, our recruiters hit the college trail armed with a new recruiting campaign this fall. With the focus of the campaign being “Get Your Hands Dirty,” the campaign centered around the opportunity to gain hands-on experience that prospective hires would receive with Southland. This message was chosen because it highlights our primary goal for each and every student that chooses to take on a Southland internship or co-op experience. Our interns are given real work and real responsibility. Throughout the course of the summer, they become valuable team members who contribute to the success of the projects they work on. As a result, they leave their internship with greater knowledge of our industry, sharpened skill sets, and a deeper understanding of what it is we stand for.
 
Cross-training is another aspect of a Southland internship that sets the program apart. All interns receive training in various areas of Southland’s expertise. Interns learn from—and more importantly interact with—industry leaders in their prospective fields. For example, last summer’s training included sessions in areas such as engineering, preconstruction, estimating, controls, and marketing. These training sessions expose Southland interns to potential new career paths while transforming them into well-rounded industry professionals.
 
As the recruiting season winds down, it is clear that the new campaign was a major success. We have an eager group of new interns ready to hit the ground running next summer and two great co-op students this fall. By challenging these students with real work and real responsibility, these new interns are efficiently prepared for a career at Southland when their days in school come to a close.
