It’s no secret that the summers in Arizona are dangerously rough, even for the most robust people. With temperatures creeping up to the triple digits, life on the streets of Arizona go from unbearable to deadly. Throughout the state, an average of 118 people die every day from excessive heat, 95 percent of those deaths occur between May and September. Phoenix Rescue Mission’s Code: Red collects donations of water and basic necessities to help ease the life of the homeless. With safety being a core value at Southland, we were presented the opportunity to give back to the city through Code: Red. Without hesitation, we joined in to help.

The 26th Annual Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) Walk in the Park was held on October 30th, 2016, at the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California. Each year, the CHOC Walk brings in more than 15,000 walkers; consisting of patients with their families and friends, corporate sponsors, and public supporters. This is the only charity event held at any Disney Park around the world.

Talking about one’s health can be an intimidating subject. In a society where vitality has long been associated with individual success, it is common to keep our health problems private—not only to convey strength, but to avoid making anyone else contemplate how our health issues are related to their mortality. This often leads to victims of cancer and other maladies to suffer alone.

For the third year in a row, Southland Industries participated in the Movember Foundation’s annual competition. A play on of ‘moustache’ and ‘November,’ Movember is a month-long campaigned for men and women across the globe to join together to raise awareness and funds for men’s health. With dozens of Southland men and women participating, two men took the time to explain what Movember is and why it means so much to participate.

Each year, Southland maintains community outreach relationships from previous years while building new relationships in order to benefit the community. Our commitments to community outreach are made more meaningful, as many of Southland’s Mid-Atlantic Division employees live in the county we support. In the past, our division’s community outreach efforts have run the gamut from supporting Habitat for Humanity in Loudoun County to raising money for Loudoun Youth, Inc.

Employees of Southland’s Northern California Division have consistently proven their commitment to helping the local community and the environment. In 2013, our division hit new records in regards to charitable fundraising and volunteer commitments and we plan to continue those efforts throughout 2014.

Over the years, Southland Industries’ Southern California Division has continuously improved its commitment to giving back to the community through charitable efforts. In 2013, Southland Industries donated a generous amount of time and money and continued that trend into 2014. Towards the end of January, the division strengthened its relationship with the American Red Cross by hosting a blood drive.

As a part of Southland’s ongoing initiative to give back to the community, the Southwest Division has planned several charitable events for 2014. The division’s charity committee continues to collaborate with various organizations to not only give back to our community, but also create a community within the Southwest Division by bringing everyone together.
